About Bibelot – An Independent Gift & Craft Shop in Leek, Staffordshire

We’re Liz and Sophie – sisters and the founders of Bibelot, a creative independent shop in the market town of Leek, on the edge of the Peak District National Park.

After studying Fine Art together, we launched our business in 2008, starting with handmade products and local market stalls. As demand grew, we expanded our range, sourced quirky and beautiful gifts, and opened our first shop in Getliffe’s Yard in 2009.

In 2011, we moved into our forever home at No. 2 Sheepmarket, transforming a long-abandoned building into the colourful and welcoming shop you see today.

Now spread over three floors, Bibelot is packed with thoughtfully curated gifts, bags, accessories, children's toys, haberdashery, fabric, yarn, and craft supplies. We also run creative workshops including sewing, crochet and more in our upstairs studio.

We love to support and showcase locally made products, and are proud to stock work from talented local artists and UK designers alongside well-known creative brands. Whether you're looking for a thoughtful present, something a bit different, or supplies for your next project – we’re here to help.

Where Our Name Comes From.....

People often ask us what Bibelot means – and we love telling the story!

Our mum is a keen book lover and a fan of the Mapp and Lucia novels by E.F. Benson. In the books, one of the characters, Georgie, keeps a glass-topped case filled with his bibelots – small objects of curiosity, beauty, or rarity.

The word bibelot (pronounced bib-loh, from the French bee-buh-loh) perfectly captured the kind of unique and beautiful things we wanted to fill our shop with – so the name stuck!

And that’s how Bibelot was born – a place filled with handpicked treasures, creative inspiration, and a little bit of everyday magic.
