Scheepjes Whirl Lavenderlicious 758

Scheepjes Whirl Lavenderlicious 758. This delicious gradient yarn from Scheepjes comes in many scrumptious colour ways. Made from a blend of 60% Cotton / 40% Acrylic to produce projects that are lightweight and breathable. Unlike other gradient yarns, Whirl has a generous twist to enable speed while working the yarn and to help prevent splitting. The beautiful drape of this yarn makes it perfect for shawls, accessories, garments and stylish home décor projects.

Whirl has a unique twisted plied section, which gives it a characteristic ‘flavour’ all of its own! The Extra Large yarn cake holds an enormous 1000 metres of softly colour changing yarn, more than enough for a large shawl or wrap. Each colour change is carefully tied in an optimum way to ensure the knot can be discreetly hidden within your stitches.

Scheepjes is a Dutch brand which has been producing yarn for many years. In fact, the company dates back to the 17th century but officially got its name as recently as in the 1930s. From here on, production of yarn grew rapidly, but with the wage increases, the introduction of a five-day working week in the Netherlands and competition from Europe during the 1960s and 1970s, the company ended up bankrupt in 1988. However, in 2010, the company was taken over and the sought-after yarn is now sold across large parts of the world, especially in Europe and has a large social media following!

The word ‘Scheepjes’ means little boats or ships in Dutch. A ‘schip’ is a ship, and ‘scheepjes’ are little ships. The brand is called that way because in the olden days, the yarn would be brought to the stores in… little boats! Scheepjes is actually pronounced ‘sh-kep-ee-yeh’
